As you probably know by now, Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks is the winner of the Hart trophy which is awarded to the regular season MVP. Without doubt Thornton had a sterling finish to his season despite a slow start in Boston. Cleary the trade to San Jose was good for Thornton.
Jagr, however, was a consistent performer throughout the season and did not miss a game. Moreover, Jagr pipped Thornton in the important categories of time-on-ice and plus/minus. Fantasy Hockey League players will also take note of the slightly higher penalty minutes of Jagr because to them, higher penalty minutes is indicative of toughness.
| Rank | Player | Team | Psn. | Gms. | Gls. | Asts. | Pts | +/- | Pen. | TOI | Rating |
|---|
| 1 | JAROMIR JAGR | NYR | R | 82 | 54 | 69 | 123 | 34 | 72 | 22:04 | 248.28 |
| 2 | JOE THORNTON | SJS | C | 81 | 29 | 96 | 125 | 31 | 61 | 21:20 | 241.96 |
Despite the fact that Thornton garnered 2 more points than Jagr, TheHockeyRating.com rated Jagr slightly higher and therefore, in my humble opinion, should have been the league MVP.
