Tie Domi is gone and I say good riddance. For many years Domi made his contribution to hockey without his gloves on. Now that the league has changed the rules to take the chippiness out of the game, there is less need for an enforcer. And I say that is a good thing.
I was peeved back in 1991-92 when Domi would get ice time in favor of veteran John Ogrodnick who could be counted on score 20 goals a season and some assists to boot. And it was Roger Neilson (GRHS) who was coaching the New York Rangers at the time.
I remember seeing a particularly nasty sucker punch from behind by Domi on former team-mate Ulf Samuelsson
TheHockeyRating.com rated Tie Domi's 2003-04 record as follows.
| Rank | Player | Posn | Games | Goals | Assists | Points | +/- | Penalty | TOI | Rating |
|---|
| 329 | TIE DOMI | R | 80 | 7 | 13 | 20 | -2 | 208 | 11.11 | 51.78 |
| 486 | TIE DOMI | R | 77 | 5 | 11 | 16 | -10 | 109 | 9.43 | 36.34 |
Domi has declined in all categories. I am glad that the league made changes to the rules and their enforcement. The game is more entertaining to watch and it's too bad for the likes of Domi that there is no longer a roster spot for them.
